I have always wanted to work in a cafe. Maybe not as a waitress or a cook, but something more. Having an interest in the purchasing and selling of items for restaurants and cafes is what really interested me. So when I saw a sign hiring for cafe accountants at a local cafe, I went ahead and put my application in. A week later, I got the call for an interview.
I was so nervous! Mainly, because I had no idea what to expect. I had went to school for accounting and had worked for a few years for a lumber company. I had never worked in a cafe or in the food industry at all. I really hoped that that didn’t hurt my chances for employment there!
I got there and sat down and a few minutes later, I went to the back for the interview. I told the manager that I was a little nervous and was quickly calmed down when she explained there was nothing to be nervous about! She explained the job and what they were looking for and said that I had a lot of the qualifications that they needed in someone to be an accountant. I did let her know upfront that I didn’t have food service experience at all. She told me that that wasn’t a requirement for the position, but if I was hired and wanted to learn more about the cafe she’d be more than willing to let me learn so I could better know what went on there.
After going over a few more details on the position, I got excited! It was the perfect job for me and was something new and a little challenging. When the interview was over, I really hoped that I nailed that interview. Being able to help the cafe manage money and budget while growing was something that I really felt that I could have helped with! Thankfully, the next day I got a call telling me that I had gotten the job! It is one of the best jobs I have ever had. I even wanted to learn more about the position and got a crash course in the cafe that I now work at!
